My Story

Ever since my father introduced me to the magic of photography as a child, it became my passion to capture images of beauty,
awe, and inspiration to share with others.

Did you know that the word, “photography” means, to paint or draw with light? I think that’s part of its magic! For over six decades, I’ve shot tens of thousands of pictures of landscapes, people, products, and events. When I retired a few years ago I began to pursue landscape photography seriously but discovered it didn’t meet the standard of contemporary fine art photography. I would try my best but concluded that my pictures looked flat and uninspiring. I was a bit discouraged.

I thought if I just tried harder I could do it, but my first attempts failed miserably. I’ve been a photographer all my life for myself, family, friends, and even at work - but still, the higher level of fine art photography eluded me. I invested in more classes, software, and gear but it just wasn’t coming together. I could see my dream slipping away - so much time and money wasted. I felt dejected and confused. What was I missing? Should I just stop? Was this the death of my dream?

I didn’t have much hope but one day I took a class on post-processing landscape pictures and submitted one of my own for professional editing. After ninety minutes the class was ending and it still had not been edited. I begged the instructor to edit one more image - mine. The teacher was tired but graciously agreed. As he began bringing the image to life, literally “painting with light”, the light of understanding went on for ME. Finally, I got it. I can do that! I felt exhilarated and confident that by applying this new knowledge it would help me accomplish my fine art photography goals.

From that moment on, I’ve continued to refine my shooting and editing techniques to help evoke emotion and wonder with light that glows and deep, rich colors. You might think that sounds like a lot of effort and wonder why I do it. It’s all for you; to take you places and into moments that are rare, fleeting, and filled with meaning and emotion. It brings me deep satisfaction to know that I can offer these magical moments captured for you and that they can bring you many years of enjoyment.

I continue to shoot and have more images than I can put in the Gallery. You’ll find many more of my photographs in my Etsy Store. If you are looking for something specific and don’t find it there, please contact me. I have also customized images with quotes and scriptures for clients. I’d love an opportunity to work with you!

One last thing - I’ve been blessed by so many great teachers over the years who have helped me get to where I am today and I would like to give back where I can. If you aspire to take better pictures, head over to my Photo Tips page where I tell the story behind a picture then share a few tips for taking that kind of picture (sunsets, flowers, or stars for example). Space does not permit me to go in-depth on these subjects but I’d be happy to try to answer any questions you have. Just drop me a line!
